Spring (1)
Prayer
Gentle Words In A Raging Storm
Prayers for all occasions
Creative God, the fresh signs of life in our
gardens and lawns tell us it is spring.
The sound of flapping wings against the blue sky
reminds us of that migratory urge that calls us to
adventure, that arouses our dulled senses to the
excitement of a new day.
The green buds of this season strengthen our faith
in the universal persistence of life.
That which has died now has produced a veritable array
of color, shape, and texture.
Hope which has lain dormant under the heavy ground
of sadness, grief, and loneliness is beginning to stir
and make its way to the sun.
O Lord of life, who showers us with love so our
hands will become like honey to sweeten the world
with their touch,
help us to hear the music of spring,
the symphony of friendship,
the harmonious chorus of the community of believers.
Give us courage to face the hard trials that would
make us grow and to find peace in decisions fashioned
by prayer and compassion.
Come quickly, Lord, and find a place in our homes
where hope abounds and laughter flows freely.
Amen.
Spring (2)
O Great Creator God,
we are thankful for all the days of our lives,
but we are especially grateful for days of dancing
sunshine and seasons of growth,
when tender green shoots raise their bulbous heads
above the winter's barren ground,
when a chorus of birds convene in the trees for a
family reunion from their days of southern migration.
We thank you, O God, for the hope that returns to
our hearts when we can walk outside bathed in warmth
and beauty.
We pray for all who are still enduring the winter
of their lives:
the cold chill of grief,
the cool breeze of loneliness,
the icy shiver of broken relationships, broken dreams,
broken hearts.
May they continue to look for the spring,
to await the return of blue skies and bright smiles,
the comfort of a close friend,
the assurance of constant prayer.
For you are our springtime God who restores new life,
but you are also with us in winter, sharing your
blanket of dreams.
And so we hope in the One who knows cold and heat,
darkness and light,
despair and courage,
and teaches us a springtime prayer. Amen.
Spring (3)
With the softness of spring-falling snow,
your love falls down upon us, O Lord.
We are touched by a new sensation,
a growing awareness of your gentle activity in our
lives.
Continue, O Lord, to open our eyes to the miracles
your love has fashioned:
the miracle of music that reaches our minds through
tiny membranes and bone fragments;
the miracle of healing in simple expressions like ...
I'm sorry
I'll stay with you
It's okay
You're going to make it
I care for you
Let me be your friend.
There is the miracle of the persistent order of things
affirmed with each sunrise and sunset.
And the wonders of new birth ...
a baby
a graduate
a bride and groom
a new insight
a profound experience
laughter after many tears
a morning sunbeam across the dark walls of fear.
Make us your miracle workers of love, O God of Grace.
Teach us the power of compassion, acceptance,
friendliness, forgiveness.
In our wonder of your great sacrifice of love,
give us the will to follow.
May your prayer be evidenced in our lives even as
it is spoken from our lips. Amen.
