Testimony and triumph amid tribulations and trials
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Based Upon Cycle C Lectionary Gospels
Gospel Theme:
Testimony and triumph amid tribulations and trials
Gospel Note:
It is difficult, if not impossible, to determine how much of this apocalyptic material was originally with Jesus, and how much an elaboration on the part of the early church. In either case, the central notion here is that tribulations and trials are to be expected and accepted as opportunities for Christian testimony, that this witness will be assisted by none other than the Holy Spirit, and that the faithful will therefore ultimately triumph.
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
O God Of Earth And Altar
Through The Night Of Doubt And Sorrow
Earth And Stars!
Christ, Whose Glory Fills The Skies
Judge Eternal, Throned In Splendor
All Creatures Of Our God And King
130
Proper 28 -- Pentecost 26 -- OT 33
Lord,
we know that everything has a beginning and
an ending -- except you.
Birth and death are the most significant beginnings
and endings.
Beginnings are associated with
schools,
jobs,
homes,
and friendships.
Beginnings are usually exciting, endings can be
terrifying!
The unknown and the unfamiliar can create a lot
of anxiety in our hearts and minds.
Give us the assurance and the confidence that
every beginning and every ending takes place
under your watchful eye.
We are never alone.
We are never without access to your support.
We are never without hope.
Grant us the vision to see that, by your grace,
every ending becomes an opportunity for
a new beginning.
Amen.
