Matthew To Revelation

Object: some business forms with carbon paper separating each sheet
Good morning, boys and girls. It is time for us to think about some different things. Here we are in church on the first Sunday of a brand new month. Does anyone know what month this is? (let them answer) That's right; March, and what does March make you think about? (let them answer) I think about the wind and how hard it blows in the month of March. I also think about spring and how soon it will be with us. But today I am thinking about Lent. How many of you know something about Lent? (let them answer) This is a time of year when we think about Jesus and how he suffered and died for our sins. How many of you have thought about that today? (let them answer)
We have a lot of things to think about, don't we? I think about spring and I think about my friends. I like to think about good things, but sometimes I worry about being sick or having people angry with me for something. When I think about the things that cause me a lot of worry, I seem to forget about Jesus.
How many of you ever forget about Jesus? It seems like when we are worrying or forgetting about Jesus, we feel separated from him. Let me show you what I mean. (take out your carbon forms) Let's pretend that this first sheet of paper I have with me is Jesus, and the black piece of paper is one of my worries. Let's say this worry is about a friend who is mad at me. The next sheet of paper is me. (hold up next set of forms) Then I have the worry of getting really sick, and then there is me.
Just think of how far I am getting away from Jesus. I am being separated from Jesus. Jesus is way up front and I am getting further and further away because of all my worries. That's really bad. When you get that far away from Jesus, you may be afraid that Jesus will forget you.
But before you worry about Jesus forgetting you, let me show you something. I am going to have Jesus write you a note. Remember I told you that Jesus was the first page. Well, Jesus is writing you a note that says I love you. (write it out on the page) Now let's see if Jesus got through your worries. Here is your worry about the friend who is mad at you. We will look under that worry and see what is there. The next page is you. Look at this: the message from Jesus is written on you! Let's look at the next worry. That was our fear of getting really sick. Let's look at you under that worry. Jesus got through that worry also. His message is there. He loves you. Nothing can separate you from the love of Jesus. All your worries are not big enough to keep Jesus from you.
That's something to remember. If you remember that Jesus will always be with you, you can forget about your worries because he cares for you. Will you remember? I hope so.
