Positive praying
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Based Upon Cycle C Lectionary Gospels
Gospel Theme:
Positive praying
Gospel Note:
Hard on the heels of a very abbreviated Lord's prayer (vv. 2b-4), Luke inserts two quasi-parables framed as rhetorical questions. Their point is that prayers should be approached in a positive frame of mind, based on the assurance that God may be relied upon at least as much as a friend asking an inconveniencing favor or a parent responding to a child's request for food.
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
Handel Hymns
Joy To the World
Thine Is The Glory
Bach Arrangements
Let The Whole Creation Cry (Entrance)
Come With Us, O Blessed Jesus (Communion)
From God Can Nothing Move Me
O God, O Lord Of Heaven And Earth

Proper 12 -- Pentecost 10 -- OT 17
Lord, teach us to pray.
We want to fill every moment of silence with radio
or television or noise of some type, because noise
helps us to avoid confronting silence.
We are afraid of silence.
Your Spirit continually prompts us, seeking to
bring our thoughts and actions into focus,
and we repeatedly hold back.
Perhaps we are afraid of what we will see.
Lord, release us from our fears of silence and walk
with us there.
Open our eyes and bring our thoughts and actions
into focus.
Lord, teach us to pray and prepare us to receive
your answers.
Amen.
